Another full house for Liar's Dice with the Metzger family .

Little White Fibs!

Liar's Dice continued its great run at WBC with record attendance. The festivities began with the traditional massed cup shake and smash to the tables -- some 220 strong. Your obliging GM's teammate Jeff Cornett was the first person eliminated and thereby serenaded with a rousing rendition of "Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey, Goodbye".

33 liars fibbed their way to Round 2 -- once again without trusty GM Jason among them. Proven liar Ken Gutermuth did him in for the third time. One round later our 33 good prevaricators were replaced by six potential politicians: Alyssa Gumkowski, Patrick Shea, Ken Gutermuth, Jeff Hing, Blair Morgen, and Carolyn Strock. This marked both Patrick and Ken's second time at the Final.

An exactor made its appearance on the first round with Patrick's bid of 11-4's being called by Ken, costing five players a die. Jeff lost a die on Round 2 when he made the mistake of calling Blair's five stars. Carolyn lost two dice on Round 3 challenging Alyssa's bid of nine 5's. Blair was the loser of Round 4, losing a die calling Jeff's six stars. Patrick finally joined the casualty list on Round 5, donating a die to challenge Alyssa's eight 6's.

Alyssa, Patrick and Ken led with four dice each. Jeff and Blair were headed in the opposite direction. First Blair bid eight 5's and when Carolyn called there were only 6 showing so Blair lost two of his remaining three dice. Round 7 was no better for Jeff when he bid seven 6's. Blair called to stave off elimination and cost Jeff two dice as he joined Blair in the low rent (one die) district. Round 8 found these two antagonists taking the heat again. Blair called Jeff's bid of eight 5's, knowing one of them would be eliminated. Jeff was soon contemplating his sixth place laurels, but Blair had little time to rejoice. His call of Ken's bid of six 6's resulted in the second exactor and his exit on Round 9. Blair's exit also cost everyone but Ken a die and that left Carolyn with just one. She took her exit in the very next Round challenging Ken's bid of five 6's.

Ken's lead was short lived. Alyssa called his bid of two stars in Round 11, costing him a die and dropping all three remaining players into a three-way tie with three dice each. Ken exacted some payback in Round 12, costing Alyssa a die on her challenge of his four 5's bid. Round 13 proved unlucky for Ken, costing him his third die for calling Patrick's bid of three stars. But it was Round 14 that put Ken in real trouble. Alyssa bid three stars and Patrick's call was rewarded with an exactor, costing him and Ken each a die. Alyssa was now back in the hunt, tied with Patrick at two dice each. She put Ken out of his misery on the next Round by successfully calling his bid of two stars.

Round 15 had left Alyssa and Patrick with two dice each. Alyssa had never been to a Final before, and although Patrick had, he was in uncharted territory, having made a quick 6th place exit in his only previous appearance. Alyssa blinked first in Round 16. Patrick successfully called her two-star bid to take the lead. Round 17 would end it. Patrick bid one 6. Alyssa upped the ante to two 6's. Fatal mistake. Patrick had lied. His two dice revealed no 6's and he had his third WBC title.
