Although it does not go down in the WBC record book as an official tournament, we nonetheless gave out wood. 2006 defending champ Bill Burch (right) tried to get matching bookend plaques but was denied by Jim Eliason (left) who won their second round game to take the prize.

Sudden Death

Fire in the Sky drew only four players in 2007 and therefore did not qualify for tournament status or laurels.

Fire in the Sky, a game published in 2005, made its second appearance at WBC in 2007. We were blessed to have 4 players dueling it out for First Place and two learning games. For the first round, Bill Burch (last year's winner), Jim Eliason, Paul McGanane and Karsten Englemann paired off against each other.

The first round was structured to play the first five game turns of the campaign game with the winner being determined by the victory point total at the end of Turn 5. If the total was 18 or more, the Japanese Player wins; less and the Allied Player would be the winner.

Bill took on Karsten and managed to pull out a win. Jim advanced to the next round in his game against Paul.

The second and final round of the game pitted Bill, the reigning champion, against Jim. This game featured Turns 2-6 instead of the 1-5 in the first round -- but the same victory point totals were used to determine the victor.

After a hard fought match, Jim managed to get a Turn 4 concession from Bill and victor. All my thanks to all that played and congratulations to Jim!
