Two Top-Six GM Nominations

Collecting by another name ...

Auction, also published by Avalon Hill as The Collector, the game of buying, selling and collecting rare items, will consist this year of a Tuesday night teaching session at 6 PM, followed by a Mulligan round at 7 PM. The "official tournament will begin
Wednesday at 3 PM, with the semi-finals following at 4 PM and the finals commencing immediately thereafter. The format is designed to allow novice players to play Tuesday night, yet still have a fast moving tournament on Wednesday.

Tournament Format
1)  The tournament will be played with all the expanded rules (from the small six-page half-sized rulebook).
2)  If the number of entrants in a heat is not divisible by 4, the GM will randomly determine the players at 3 player boards.
3)  A Mulligan round will be held Tuesday night at 7 PM.  The winners (only) of the Mulligan round boards will advance to the Wednesday 4 PM semifinals.
4)  The winners of each three- or four-person board in the preliminary round (Wednesday 3 PM) will advance to the semifinals.
5)  The top scoring runners-up at the four-player boards will advance to bring the number of semifinalists up to a multiple of 4. 6)  The winner of each semifinal board will advance to the finals, again along with the top scoring runners-up to bring the number of finalists up to four.
7)  An optional "enforced rainbow" rule will be used in the Mulligan round.  If any player is initially dealt three or more cards of a set, they must discard the excess cards (face down) and draw replacements from the deck.  The deck will then be reshuffled.
8)  The "enforced rainbow" rule may be used in the Wednesday rounds of the tournament if a majority of the players at any board so desires.
Rule Clarifications
1)  After winning an auction, you may not sell the item you just bought.  However, when using a Buyer's card, a player may buy an item which was just sold.  When buying items using the Special Value Warehouse, Dealer, Gallery and Collector Deal cards, the purchases must be paid for before the seller is paid for the item he was originally selling from his hand.
2)  You may use one Buyer's card after winning an auction to buy up to three items from the board.  However, you may not use two Buyer's cards to purchase additional items at that time.
3)  When bidding for an item during an auction, a player may pass during a round and then reenter the bidding at a later time, so long as bidding has not been ended for the item by everyone passing.
4)  The rich collector pays full set value for natural sets.  A buyer's card may not be used as a wild card to complete a set for the rich collector.
5)  You may not inherit a card which the rich collector has bought.  It is placed on the rich collector's pile and another card is inherited.
6)  The number of cards you hold in your hand at any time is public knowledge.  The amount of cash you have is not.
